There an old lady ( Bodhisattva Guanyin) sells him a Geumganggo, a magical bracelet that will ensure the obedience of anyone who wears it through the power of love. Ma-wang takes Seon-mi to an antique shop with magical wares. While Oh-gong tries to figure out a way to convince Seon-mi to die for him, Soo Bo-ri goes to Woo Ma-wang and asks him for help in protecting Sam-jang.
However, Sam-jang is none other than Seon-mi, which means that Oh-gong cannot eat her without violating the promise he made to her as a child that he would protect her. He decides to figure out who it is and eat them.
He learns from a possessed doll that Sam-jang has been born, and anyone who eats Sam-jang's flesh can gain immortality. Meanwhile, Son Oh-gong is looking to reinstate his status as an immortal and has been doing various good deeds to earn brownie points with Heaven. He gives an unsatisfactory answer and Seon-mi tearfully asks aloud why she ever bothered having faith in him as a child. At a busy intersection, Seon-mi and Oh-gong spot each other and Seon-mi asks why he did what he did. Still armed with her little magic umbrella, she owns a real estate company that specializes in buying haunted houses, exorcising the spirits, and then flipping them for large profits.
In the present day, Seon-mi has grown up into an adult. But after she agrees and releases him, Oh-gong steals the memory of his name out of her head and makes a run for it, leaving young Seon-mi stranded in the middle of nowhere. Oh-gong makes her a deal: if she puts out the five candles on the table and frees him, he promises to protect her from all dangers in her life every time she calls his name. He blocks her path and forces her to acknowledge him, and tells her that the man outside is a great danger to her as well. However, the person inside the house is Son Oh-gong, the Monkey King, who was imprisoned inside by Heaven for his crimes. She is also given specific instructions to ignore anyone she sees in there. The mysterious man exorcises the ghost for her, and asks her for a favor: to enter a magical house and retrieve a certain fan. One day when she walks home from school, a ghost follows her, and this is witnessed by a mysterious man in a suit and black top hat (Woo Ma-wang). Her seemingly irrational behavior has isolated her from her family and peers, and her only protection is her grandmother and a small yellow umbrella with protection spells written by a Buddhist monk. Seon-mi is a young girl born with the ability to see ghosts and spirits. So if you haven't seen the kdrama Tunnel in a while, then this version is a good watch. Enjoyed the spots of humour that arose especially from the little romance. At her end, she is aware and is also interested in him. Thanthai is quite taken with Danika and it is very obvious from the way he looks at her a little longer than necessary. Instead of a subtle barely hinted romance, this version was fun as you see a budding romance which leads to some good laughs. Rather than cold, the two characters came across as reserved and also vulnerable. The other two leads, Johnny and Morakot interpreted the characters in a slightly different way but it was more accessible to me than in the kdrama version. While it is not Choi Jin Hyuk warmth, the main lead Top did a good job giving an ordinary relatable feel to his character with splashes of humour. The main villains were creepy and you were rooting for our police to catch them and bring them to justice. This version had a really provincial feel to it as the PD used the backdrop of the province really well to set the mood. A cave tunnel fits in with the natural geography and makes sense. A good example would be using a cave tunnel instead of abandoned subway tunnel. Also, the PD did a good job in adapting parts of the story to give it a more Thai flavour so it doesn't feel foreign. However, here, the actors did a great job in taking the characters and filling it with their own energy. It feels like the actors are trying to copy the original, the situations don't seem to quite fit and feel foreign. Rewatch Value 5.0 Is it worth watching if you have seen the original kdrama version and loved that one? Yes! Some of the remakes in Lakorns often have this uneven feel especially in the beginning.
